Recent Paintings and Drawings at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center

The exhibition Talking Blues, featuring recent paintings and drawings by Cedric Michael Cox holds a metaphoric and literal definition with works that celebrate his  cubist influence, fused with literal elements from the worlds of music, architecture, nature and the eternal creative spirit.

“Historically my art draws from Cubism and the fracturing of forms through the picture plane.  In contemporary terms, I deconstruct the meaning of music in particular and the elements of urban and natural environments.  This past school year I had the honor of celebrating the artwork of Spanish Cubist painter Juan Gris in my lessons with my students.  Unlike Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and other artist who occasionally used cubism as a means of expression, Gris stayed loyal to the movement and created works of art that still to this day inspire me. Reviewing Gris’s work and other past influences that worked in the genre ignited a new insight and interest in my painting.  As Miles Davis( in Jazz) or Picasso termed  the color Blue in their art forms, Talking Blues, is my own reference to the rediscovery of past influence and how it still  evokes the visual experiences that arouse my senses, as I examine and interpret, the world around me, quietly and loudly.” Come out to the Clifton Cultural Arts Center for the opening reception on October 2nd. The exhibition will continue through November 5th, 2015

Amberley Village 75th anniversary mural

the shit

To celebrate Amberley Village’s 75th anniversary, a committee of Amberley residents collaborated with Kennedy Heights Arts Center to do something special that would pay homage to Amberley and its history.  I was selected by the committee to design an outdoor mural on a wall adjacent to the Municipal Building.  When I met with the committee members and toured the historic parks and pastures of the neighborhood, it was clear to me that the people of Amberley enjoyed its natural untouched beauty.  The homes and public buildings in Amberley don’t live on top of nature they live within nature.  The natural rural environment is the core to its everlasting charm.

From July 6th through July 17th I worked  community members of Amberley Village and other creative people making the design come to life. I would like to thank the community of Amberley Village and the Kennedy Heights Arts Center  for inviting me to do this mural and a special thanks goes to Tenley Rissover, Patti Rulli, Jim Rulli, Dave Remerowski, Micayah Smith, Anne Knellinger, Alex Wilson, Sabrina Mantle, George Kalomeres, Monica Lira, Evan Hodnett, Diamond Snowden, Taylor Noell Roberts, Evan Shelton and Lauren Petit, for their talent and dedication to this project.

Camp Create: The Power of Painting

DSCN4627

From romantic landscapes to portraiture, the students in my Kennedy Heights Arts Center Camp Create: Power of Painting class, created works that capture their talent as well as their imagination. For this one week camp we visited the Cincinnati Art Museum to get our inspiration flowing. I would like to thank Cincinnati Art Museum Docent Geri Sowell for taking the time to tour the museum  with us, and I would also like to thank the camp goers for making some incredible paintings. Check out their work below.
