The exhibit 30 Americans at the Cincinnati Art Museum showcases works by many of the most important African American artists of the last three decades. As a companion to this exhibition, the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the DAAP Galleries, University of Cincinnati will present “30 Americans Plus….The Region”—a two part exhibition that will recognize the diverse range of work offered by African American artists from our community.

A special thanks to Aeqai and writer Fran Watson for their insightful review of the 30 American Plus Exhibition at the Phillip M. Meyers Jr. Gallery at the University of Cincinnati.It is an honor to exhibit my work with such great talent. The  UC exhibition includes, Ricci Michaels, Anissa Lewis, Thomas R. Phelps,Delora Buford-Buchanan, Brian Joiner, Joyce Phillips Young, Tarrence Corbin, Thom Shaw, Antonio Adams, Carolyn Mazloomi, Kyle E. & Kelly Phelps, Cynthia Lockhart,  and Marc Lambert.

The Art Academy  of Cincinnati exhibition includes Terence Hammonds, Carla Johnson, Stacey Broadnax, Dhani Jones, Melvin Grier, Jimi Jones, Everage King, Velma Morris, Dale Jackson, Althea Thompson, Jymi Bolden, Courtney Cooper, O’ Leary Bacon,  and Kevin Harris. It’s a honor to be included in the Artist as Activist book.   This book is a compilation of  articles written by Saad Ghosen in the semimonthly column “Artists as Activists”  which was featured in the newspaper Streetvibes.  The book contains intimate interviews with artists who have used art to change their communities. The book also has photographs by Michael Wilson.  On May 31st  4 – 7pm the Weston Art Gallery will be hosting a launching party for the book I hope to see all of you there. Join me Saturday January 18th  from 6 – 8 pm,  for the opening reception of  Inspiration at the Kennedy Heights Arts Center. This exhibition will feature artist who created works of art inspired by the people and places that inspire them. The work that I submitted for the show was inspired by two paintings by German Swiss painter, Paul Klee and a painting by Cincinnati based painter Brain Joiner. Gallery talk for this show  will be on Saturday February  5th, from 1 – 3  and the exhibition will continue through March 1st.

I am honored to be included in the upcoming exhibit at the Kennedy Heights Arts Center in Cincinnati, OH, entitled Prelude 2009: The Human Spirit Revealed. Curated by Barbara Gamboa, the invitational exhibit also includes work by Deborah Davidson, Sarah Gallant, Barbara Gamboa, Saad Ghosn, Jim Hasse, Robert Harris, Brian Joiner, Reginald Leary, Cynthia Lockhart, Robert J. Morris, Robert O’Neal, Thomas Phelps, Rebeca Pitman, and Kurt Storch. It runs from January 17 through February 14, 2009. A public reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibit is January 17 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
