Transformation: Interpretation of Space and Place

Myself along with painters Beth Goldstein and Mary Barr Rhoads will be featured together in the exhibition Transformation: Interpretation of Space and Place. The physical environment of the inner city and the dense architectonic shapes which reference musical allegories and all over pictorial rhythm are a consistent theme in my work. Complimenting the theme of the exhibition, I will present a compilation of paintings that I have completed over the past two to three years. Though the subject matter and intent remains the same in these works, there is a shift with how space and place with my subjects is interpreted. The Diamond and Cedric Combo with side of Paul Klee

Working with Visionaries and Voices artist Diamond Snowden for Double Vision II ,was an absolute pleasure. As a studio coordinator at V&V, I have always shared with Diamond my experiences working in my studio and the ritual of painting. The Visionaries and Voices Double Vision project was a chance for both Diamond and I to collaborate and understand each other’s process. Side by side in my studio and at V&V we planed and executed this painting together pushing, pulling and refining architectonic imagery that referenced allegories in music and urban text design and pattern. The piece “Paul’s Diamond” is named after Paul Klee. Like Mr. Klee, Diamond also had an influence on me. He not only created a design that celebrated both of our interest in representational abstraction, he also gave me new insight on a recent piece that I am currently working on.
