It was a pleasure to have HEMI stop by my studio. The Higher Education Mentoring Initiative (HEMI) helps prepare foster youth for educational opportunities beyond high school. The HEMI Program recruits, trains, and supports mentors to establish positive long-term relationships with foster youth. HEMI mentors assist, encourage, and support student academic achievement, and also help create a direct pathway to higher education. In addition to sharing my artwork and learning about the participant’s interest, we made artwork that celebrated our individual character and our hopes and aspirations for the future.
