This past winter I conducted a teen mural class for the Kennedy Heights Arts Center. Our project was to do three indoor murals for the Family Nurturing Center (FNC) of Cincinnati. For eight consecutive Saturdays my group of talented teens and I planned and executed vivid compositions that expressed the FNC’s mission of bringing families back together with support and love. From a jungle scene inspired by the works of Henri Rousseau, to a mother and child crossing a treacherous sea, and a broken home being put back together again; all three murals give parents who are waiting to meet their children something to look at that will inspire them as they face the road ahead. Thank you FNC for inviting us to create in your space. Most of all, a special thanks to Micayah Smith, Max Olderding, Lucy Lorbach, Shamia Mills, Anne Knellinger, Evan Nicole Taylor, Will Rentz Mccoy, Amaya Boyd, Katie Michael, Kurtis Rodger, Alex Wilson, Justin Mackey, and Mount St. Joseph University student Nicole Staun for helping make our vision come to life.
