“2+2=5: Collaborations”

"A Tribute to Thunder- Sky" by Cedric Michael Cox and Raymond Thunder- Sky

It’s an honor to be apart of the Thunder-Sky Inc. “2+2=5: Collaberations” exhibition. Like the Raymond Thunder-Sky Legacy Mural designed by Antonio Adams, I was once again inspired by the spirit of Raymond and his everlasting love for the circus. Follow this link to learn more about the exhibition and the timeless collaboration between Antonio Adams and Brian Joiner

Westwood in the“House”at Prairie Gallery

Earlier last month I took some of students from The Westwood Elementary YMCA Cincy AfterSchool program to Prairie Gallery to see Tony Beck’s exhibition “House”. The exhibition featured the artwork of my students from Westwood Elementary and Winton Montessori art club along with other schools and originations around the city. In addition to the students begin able to see other students work, Toney Becker and Prairie Gallery staff conducted a workshop where the young artist had a chance to show off their paper house making skills. Hats off to Eboni Bonner (Westwood after school coordinator) for making the field trip possible and thank you Toney Becker and Prairie Gallery and most of all the Westwood students who made it fun!

The Diamond and Cedric Combo with side of Paul Klee

Paul's Diamond by Diamond Snowden and Cedric Michael Cox

Working with Visionaries and Voices artist Diamond Snowden for Double Vision II ,was an absolute pleasure. As a studio coordinator at V&V, I have always shared with Diamond my experiences working in my studio and the ritual of painting. The Visionaries and Voices Double Vision project was a chance for both Diamond and I to collaborate and understand each other’s process. Side by side in my studio and at V&V we planed and executed this painting together pushing, pulling and refining architectonic imagery that referenced allegories in music and urban text design and pattern. The piece “Paul’s Diamond” is named after Paul Klee. Like Mr. Klee, Diamond also had an influence on me. He not only created a design that celebrated both of our interest in representational abstraction, he also gave me new insight on a recent piece that I am currently working on. Come out and see other great collaborations of V&V artist with other local artist at Double Vision on April 23rd at Memorial Hall.

Inspired by Inspiration

Haylee Purdy

Every other year I participate in the Arts Alive program at E.H. Greene Intermediate School where I along with other artist from other disciplines shared our work with the students of the school. When I arrived to set up my display I was blown away by the artwork exhibited in the hallway. Latter I found out that the work created by the six grade class was inspired by their field trip to The Weston Art Gallery to see the exhibition Ascending Horizons. I would like to thank art educators Amy Glaser and Katy Hall for encouraging such great masterpieces. Thank you Principal Phil Hackett and Debbie Fiedette and other organizers of Arts Alive for making my visit at E.H. Greene one to remember. Most of all I would like to thank the students of E.H.Greene for inspiring me. Its times like this where the journey from my love for art as a youth and where I am today comes full Circle.

Talk at the Taft

In addition to being one of the teaching artist in the Taft Museum of Art’s ARC (artist reaching classrooms) program where I tour local high schools around the city, I recently presented some of my favorite art educational experiences and lessons along with examples of my students artwork to teachers and assisting teaching staff for the Cincinnati Public Schools in service day. The program took place in the Charles H. Dater educational room in the Taft Museum of Art. Over 45 public school teachers from over 20 different schools participated and created some remarkable art work. Thank you Taft Museum and Cincinnati Public Schools for allowing me to be your guest and share my work and the work of my students.
